I don't think I allowed enough characters for the thumbnail entries, so I'll adjust that next week.
Also, I may widen the range of what can be posted here, such as out buildings, etc., so I may change the rules just a bit.

That's an interesting spot to locate the barn. Perhaps it was also used as a winter storage for a boat?

Thank you for introducing such a great weekly meme! I love old "everything" and am so grateful to be able to show some "Southern" stuff!

I'm glad you were able to take a picture of this. It doesn't look like it will last another winter.

As a lover of barns I think your meme is a great idea.
The barn in your picture must have been a beauty in its day, too bad it is in such disrepair :(

Wow Tricia! This looks like it is off to a wonderful start. I didn't have a barn photo on a computer I could access and it may be a couple of weeks before I can join in but I will. I'm glad you invited me. I'm really going to be looking for barns now. :)
Now, let me say I like your first entry with it's red patined paint.
I too wonder if it was used to store a boat. Never seen a barn by that much water that could potentially flood. Sure wouldn't want wet hay!

Thanks for starting this meme. Old or new barns are just great.
Your barn pictured looks like it doesn't have much longer to stay standing. Too bad. MB

It's so nice to see all these wonderful barns.
To answer your question - the front of the barn, with the doors, is at ground level, making easy access for the farmer to load hay, store equipment, etc. The lower level at the back and usually at 'pasture level' and provides a sheltered area for animals like sheep and goats.
Thanks again for this fun meme.

Your barn today is a wonderful one to document before it's completely gone. Aminus3 doesn't permit the addition of links so I will be unable to participate in your Old Barns theme. I thoroughly enjoyed looking at the post today.

I really like this new theme! And this old barn is cool.

Oh my - wonder what it was like in it's "hay" day! ;o)

Hi Tricia! I found you at the road less traveled blog...I follow her...and thought "why not! i love barns!" on my sidebar on the bottom is the 'story' behind the historic barn that tragically burned at our farm just 3 years ago...so barns hold a dear place in my prairie heart.

thanks for giving me the welcome!

Can you imagine how glorious that barn was back in the day? Still a beauty but sad to see it reaching the end. Great image!
