Living Legend No 844

June 6th 2011
Mouse Over the image above

He walked into the frame in the 1st shot, but I couldn't resist including these shots of this man
snapping his own shots of these HUGE wheels!

The Last Steam Engine Train visited Poplar Bluff, Missouri
& my daughter called me at work to tell me to get my butt down to the train depot to get some shots,
so, luckily, I was able to leave work at lunch...
BUT,
it was one of those days that I was running late that morning & didn't grab my camera! *gasp* =0
I sped home, grabbed my camera, & before I could get back downtown I'm getting a text saying,
"Hurry Up! It's HOT out here, woman!"
100 degrees - She wasn't exaggerating!!!
I got parked & found her, her boyfriend, his dad, & all kinds of others snapping away!

It's taken a week to get these pics & the entire post the way I want them & there's 2 collages
because I JUST. COULD. NOT. DECIDE. on which one I liked best,
so, you get both! Which do you like best?

One of the 2 pics I shot of Kes was her asking me, "where do you want me?"
& the 2nd, "Ok, that's good w/ me as long as I can get outa here, QUICK!"
100 degrees... HOT!

Moral of this story?
ABC!
Always
Bring
Camera!

Very cool! My fave has to be the 3rd one down in black and white with the vintage frame. Love that one!

Ha ha Tricia - I remember you telling me about this story (ABC, and the heat ...). Love these nostalgic photos - great captures ! I didn't live through the steam era (I'm not THAT old !) but I do remember playing on steam engines as a kid when the Canadian railways were replacing them with diesels.

Love that shot with the puffs of steam.

This is a fine series. It's rare to get shots of a real steam locomotive. Thanks for sharing these with us.

I can't pick a favorite collage, so thank goodness you put both of them there for us to see! That engine is huge! I'm lucky enough to have a ticket to ride in a dome car behind another great big stream engine a week from tomorrow. I can't wait! I'll have photos of it up soon thereafter. Hope you can come and look. I don't know how to make a collage, so I'll just have lots of them on the blog, maybe several days worth because the ride is about 200 miles round trip.

How'd you do that mouse over thing? That's great!

That same train has passed through our little town a time or two. I have not managed to get down there to get photos though. These are great, Tricia. A real piece of history. :)

I was born about 30 feet from a railroad track and grew up with the steam engine rattling dishes and shaking doors. They whistled in front of our house as the state highway crossed the tracks about 500 feet north of our house. It was a time of hobos, tanks, jeeps and soldiers creeping by our house. A smaller steam engine than this one but big to a little boy.
