Barn Charm ♥43♥ - Devil's Barn

SOOC

SOOC

Several months ago I was checking out this area on Google Earth & found a place called Devil's Barn...
It's pretty far from here, but my daughter & I decided to go last weekend.
Now, we just don't see barns this big around here, so we were both a little shocked at how big it actually is
(Kesley is a small girl, but she's dwarfed standing there beside it in the 1st shot.)

We walked all around it & if you've visited my Barn Charm posts, you know how I'm always saying,
"I'd love to get inside these barns & explore them!"
Well, after reading what happened to Rose at Pics & Pieces while photographing one of her barns
a while back in Tennessee, I walked to the edge of this barn & I felt like I was intruding
& the place is kinda creepy, which Kesley immediately pointed out before I could say anything,
so we didn't go in... BUT, we got to see inside & it looks like someone is fixing it up, maybe?
Can you see how there's a pretty good sized crack in the floor along the wall in the last shot on the left side?

We found no signs telling anything about the place & I have no idea why it would be on a map,
but there has to be a story there... if I find out, I'll definitely post it!
I'd love to post all the shots I took, but there's just too many, so I'll have to split them up AND
down the same road is another really neat location, but more on that later, so stay tuned! =)

I also wanted to add that I'm going to start leaving the Barn Charm linky open until 8am Friday mornings...
I want to give everyone plenty of time to join in! =)

Directions:  Hwy 60 to Winona, Missouri - North on Hwy 19 through Eminence, then West on Hwy KK,
& finally left (south) on Devil's Well Road... that's actually a hint as to what's down the road from the barn! =)

What a beautiful old barn and it's so nice to see inside! I'd love to know the story of this one and the area.

That was worth driving for, Tricia! Your photos are just beautiful.

I know what you mean about going on private property to photograph barns. I have had owners question me and it's always embarrassing! I like when the barn is abandoned.

Devil's Barn. sure sounds like there's some lore involved there!

It's amazing how long they can remain standing. It's obviously so very old, yet is holding it's own to remain upright.

Hmmmmmmm... Wonder what went on in that barn for it to have that name??????? Glad you drove to see it.. It really is large!
Hugs,

It's been a while since I linked up, but I had a barn this week and should have another next week as I set up a time to go see the inside of the round barn near me! Glad you were able to explore that awesome barn near you!

You have a new and interesting barn to share every week...I don't know how you do it. And, we got inside this one!!

That is a cool barn!!

When I find things that catch my interest I have to do research. Such is the case with this barn.

I found info. about the area, but not the barn itself. What I read is that there's an extremely large sink hole in the area called Devil's Well (first discovered and explored in 1952), which sits not too far from the barn. It was owned by the Wallace family, and run as a tourist attraction in the 60s and 70s. The National Parks Service purchased the land in 1974. Possibly they are refurbishing the barn?

I found a photo stream of pictures...Looks like a pretty cool area to explore!

I hope you don't mind that I posted the info. that I found. I'm sure there's lots of interesting facts yet to be had. I'm just a researcher by nature. :-)

That is so cool! I'd love to know what the story is behind it if you find out :)

It's a cool barn! I love the angle you shot it at.

Wow! This one definitely looks creepy, and Devil's Barn certainly suits it. Not many barns are on the map, and you know there are interesting stories attached to this one and the surrounding area. You probably wouldn't want to be exploring here on a dark and story night!

Quite a name--definitely makes you go, "Hmmmmm."
I love the weathered wood in shades of brown and then gray. It looks like it has a story or stories. Quite fascinating find!

You have a great looking barn for today. Love the wood textures and the deep color of the wood. I especially enjoyed getting to see the interior shot.
Linky isn't working at the moment…at 7:15Pacific
I'll try again later.

I hope you do find out more about this barn. There has to be quite a story behind something called Devil's Barn.

I don't mind if you link :)
Sorry I've not been around much lately.

Hi Tricia and everyone, this barn is very intriguing. I love that wooden ladder on the outside wall. it surely does have lots of character. old barns that are no longer used for livestock become dumping grounds for storing things. they often accumulate STUFF, so I wonder if that's what is happening here. hopefully it will be saved. nice find Tricia! I hope you're having a great week and keeping cool. and thanks for hosting Barn Charm every week. it's fast becoming one of my favorite photo memes!

Awesome pictures of a great treasure! Keep us updateed on any info you find about that great place!

The Devil's Barn...hmmm. Makes me wonder what the hell is going on there in Missourah! :-) Great pics, though. I'd be a big fearful of going inside just because something might fall down on me wee little head! Still, it doesn't look like a lot of current renovation is happening.

Funny comments today. Yes, those are RR tracks in that Colorado shot.

And thanx for linking me up. I either don't have a barn shot or I forget...it's called short-term memory loss.

Now, what was I talking about?

Have a nice day George. Er, I mean Trisha. ;-)

Super barn, Tricia. I love to go hunting, whether it is for barns or sunsets but rolling down the road just looking is always fun.

BTW--My pic is too large to load on barn charm and I am using a friends computer so could you you smaller it for me?? Please????? Thanks MB

Really is a big barn isn't it?

Mari said...

Hey Tricia - I've been touring the other posts and I'm having trouble with the bottom line of pictures. Every link is connecting me with #30. Is it just me or are others having trouble too?

That's a great old barn and I hope someone is about to restore it or preserve it. THere must be an interesting story too: I would love to hear it!

Tricia...your photo was taken from such a great perspective! It emphasizes the size of the barn and its dark wood.
