taken day before the water started receding.
The water got close, but the storage units are built up!

Looking thru the fence around the power station on the property at work...
taken just before 8am & it was chilly outside... this girl is in the water...
rowing... with a board... on an inflatable raft of some kind... in flood water...
You wouldn't catch me in that water... I'm just sayin' =0

Southeast Missouri is still under flood warnings & Lake Wappapello is still closed...

Has anyone heard about the flooding in Cairo, Illinois & that an Il. judge
has passed a proposal to blow up several sections of the
Mississippi River levee & flood 160,000 acres
in Missouri to keep Cairo from flooding?
If so, what are your thoughts?

Flood 2011 - Lake Wappapello

1st - You simply must swing by & check out comparison shots
that by brother, Brian at Terrell Texas Daily, posted yesterday...
to show just how high the flood waters actually got!
You won't believe it!
I keep hearing that they're keeping an eye on the levee,
but they opened downtown today, so that's good news! =)

Entrance to People's Creek - note the water level on the street light thru the trees.
There's a whole section of camp grounds, a beach, & docks down there...
or should I say, there WAS!

Not real sure what this cove is named, but if you turn left at the very end
(top of the pic), you'd see the spillway.
I didn't think fish would bite in a flood...?

Flood 2011 at Lake Wappapello

All shots taken April 26th 2011
Corner of Hwy 60 E & T Hwy toward Lake Wappapello, Missouri.
This isn't a lake... there isn't suppose to be any water in this view.

Redman Creek restrooms... note the water level on the volleyball net.

Looking at Redman Creek area from Lookout at opposite side of dam...
note the water level on the basketball goals.

Lake Wappapello Spillway

The spillway is behind me here

I think the storms are over, at least for a few days!
I just want to say again that I will visit everyone...
I've been taking lots & lots of pics & then trying to edit & post them
is taking up quite a bit of my time,
but I would really like to show my flood shots...
so don't give up on me! =)

T Hwy was shut down today due to HIGHER water levels shown here!

Poplar Bluff, Missouri Flood 2011

All pics taken Monday April 25th
Corner of F Street & Black Road looking in direction of Morocco & A Hwy.
Do you think this road may be impassable? =0
Shots of the same field & levee, but there isn't suppose to be any water at all...
the river is on the other side of that levee, however, this particular levee hasn't been breached, this field just holds water!
Do you see the flock of birds flying in the 3rd shot?

the Poplar Bluff Twin Towers in the background.
That's a blue trash truck crossing the bridge.

Downtown foot bridge crossing over Black River leading to Clinton Park,
which is severely under water.
See that line of trees in the middle?
That's suppose to be the other side of the river on the bank of Clinton Park.

Another view of the foot bridge w/ the
downtown railroad tracks in the foreground.

We had sunshine, blue skies part of the day, & it was breezy,
BUT the rain is back & there's tornado & severe thunderstorm watches & warnings,
not to mention all the flash flood watches & warnings...
forecast tonight as of 9pm!

I WILL visit everyone's Barn Charm posts as soon as I can...
I've been trying to take as many shots of the flood as I can
& I've only been able to do so yesterday & today,
because it's been storming by the time I get off work!
On Sunday's post I mentioned that we'd had 4 days of these storms,
but I hadn't counted them correctly...
We've had 7 nights in a row of these storms & I'm sick of it!

Only some Curves & Levels adjustments made to these shots.

Barn Charm ♥30♥

Taken 2 weekends ago just east of Poplar Bluff... my daughter was here while I was editing & when I applied the 2nd texture, she loved it & said I had to post it... so, here it is! =)
Mouse Over the 2nd image to see original.
We just had a tornado pass thru the area & we're still under tornado watches...
Still not sure if I'll be able to work tomorrow... practically everything is shut down,
especially on the south side where I work.
It's been raining sooo hard since I got off work 2 hrs ago, so the flooding can only get worse!

Texture & TOO MUCH RAIN!

original

Just doing some more experimenting w/ textures...

Mother Nature must really be ticked off at all of us here in the mid west...
we're FLOODING!
We've had almost a constant sound of rumbling thunder, not to mention, severe thunderstorm, tornado, & flood WARNINGS
for 4 days straight & it isn't suppose to stop until Tues or Wed.
Flood stage on Black River is 16'... at noon today, it was at 18.8'
& expected to crest at 21'!
My NOAA radio won't shut up...
It's awful!

UPDATE - They're starting mandatory evacuations in the Poplar Bluff/Black River area this morning & there's more rain coming today & tonight... I may not be able to go to work because work is located in the evacuation area of town! Who can afford not to go to work? I can't, so they're just gonna have to let me swim to work...

UPDATE #2 2.50pm - They've raised flood treat from "major flooding" to "record severity" - how ominous sounding is that!
At least 3 sections of the Black River levee have been breeched & they say more levee breaks are imminent...
torrential rains are forecast for tonight & more tomorrow!
This isn't how Poplar Bluff should be making CNN news!!!

Say some prayers because there's tornado warnings all around us!

Weekend Reflections - Black River at Poplar Bluff, Missourahhh

The water looks like a sheet of ice, but it has to be in the editing process, though, because it was about 95-100 degrees that day last summer!
