Camera Critters - Sugar

My mom will take in horses from time to time when they've been abused & need to be nursed back to health.
The black one shown here is Charrita, which is mom's horse & the brown one, Sugar, is one she took in.
See the sheep in the shade to the left?

Mom must have been in the sheep barn, because the sheep took off...
notice the horses are still grazing, so she wasn't in the horse barn. ;)

Here comes Taffy, another of mom's horses, on the right.

All the shots above were taken May 30th almost 2 months after mom had gotten Sugar, so you really can't see the extent of how skinny she actually was...

The shots below were taken July 4th and just look at her shiny coat, now, and how much she's filled out.

Sugar is a beautiful & happy horse and is being well taken care of...
The question now becomes will mom be able to give her up when it's time to go live w/ her new owner?
I, for one, don't think she'll be able to...

Behind me is nothing but a locked steel cage door and it's blacker than black down there,

but oh so much cooler & there's water dripping everywhere.

We tried taking several pics, with & without flash, but none of them turned out at all.

I liked the moss growing on the steps, it's kinda pretty.

We couldn't see any of whats pictured above...

This will be the last of The Devil's Well series... until I go back in the fall when the trees have turned
and IT ISN'T 100+ degrees out! =)

I didn't want to spend the next 4 or so Barn Charm Mondays/Tuesdays posting the same barn,
even though it's one of my favorites & such a beautiful barn,
so I decided to continue the theme this week.

I just found a website that lists the barn as abandoned, but someone has to own the land, right?

This is getting more & more mysterious!

I guess I could send a letter asking about it to the address on the site.

Barn Charm ♥43♥ - Devil's Barn

Several months ago I was checking out this area on Google Earth & found a place called Devil's Barn...
It's pretty far from here, but my daughter & I decided to go last weekend.

Now, we just don't see barns this big around here, so we were both a little shocked at how big it actually is
(Kesley is a small girl, but she's dwarfed standing there beside it in the 1st shot.)

We walked all around it & if you've visited my Barn Charm posts, you know how I'm always saying,
"I'd love to get inside these barns & explore them!"
Well, after reading what happened to Rose at Pics & Pieces while photographing one of her barns
a while back in Tennessee, I walked to the edge of this barn & I felt like I was intruding
& the place is kinda creepy, which Kesley immediately pointed out before I could say anything,
so we didn't go in... BUT, we got to see inside & it looks like someone is fixing it up, maybe?
Can you see how there's a pretty good sized crack in the floor along the wall in the last shot on the left side?

We found no signs telling anything about the place & I have no idea why it would be on a map,
but there has to be a story there... if I find out, I'll definitely post it!
I'd love to post all the shots I took, but there's just too many, so I'll have to split them up AND
down the same road is another really neat location, but more on that later, so stay tuned! =)

I also wanted to add that I'm going to start leaving the Barn Charm linky open until 8am Friday mornings...
I want to give everyone plenty of time to join in! =)


Directions:  Hwy 60 to Winona, Missouri - North on Hwy 19 through Eminence, then West on Hwy KK,
& finally left (south) on Devil's Well Road... that's actually a hint as to what's down the road from the barn! =)

Camera Critters - Texas Longhorn in Missouri

This big guy has been around for quite some time... 

I don't know how long Texas Longhorns live, but he's old!

He lives on a hillside near Van Buren, Missouri w/ the horses you see here

& sometimes he's out there grazing, sometimes he isn't... 

but I can guarantee you'll see him at some point.

We've been traveling between Poplar Bluff & Van Buren (a river town) for years

& the kids have always kept an eye out for this dude

to see if they could catch a glimpse of him & those long horns!
