Barn Charm ♥73♥ & Sky Watch Friday

A Great Big Thank You To Everyone For Joining Barn Charm Every Week!
If you're new this week, Welcome! =)

Have you heard of National Barn Alliance?
Jim over at Terrell Daily Photo emailed the link to me today
along w/ an article from The Seattle Times Nation & World.
Very interesting information about barns...
From the article:
A 2007 U.S. Department of Agriculture census asked for the first time about barns built before 1960
and found there were more than 664,000 nationwide.
Texas has the most, with more than 51,000,
followed by Missouri with about 36,000
and Wisconsin with about 35,000.

I would never have guessed that Texas held the record,
nor that Missouri would be 2nd.
I thought for sure it would be Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, etc. at the top...
Goes to show what I know! LoL! =)

Now, about this captcha business...
I hate to offend & I don't want anyone to be mad or upset w/ me,
but 'captcha' has got to go!
Bloggers, PLEASE PLEASE, PRETTY PRETTY PLEASE,
turn the 'captcha' option OFF once & for all!
It's not needed & too annoying to visit blogs w/ it applied!
If you don't know how to turn it off,
let me know & I'll be more than happy to help you!

Thank you Tricia for hosting this meme every week... I love having a place to share with like-minded photographers. Love especially your first shot this week... the textures add so much mood!

interesting facts. wonder how many VA has? love the barn. so mighty & love the white color. red is my favorite but white is a close 2nd. (:

i LOVE this big ol' barn with that huge sweeping roof! wow!

my guess about texas having the most old barns is due to the fact that is just plain has the largest SPACE for them! we surely don't build great barns like the midwest, but we have more area for them than several of those states combined. :)

and i like your new signature/copyright.

Loving that style of barn you chose to post this week, Tricia. Something about how wide it is captures my attention.

Hope you are having a wonderful evening. :)

I do think white is my favorite color of a barn! Love it!

Interesting stats. And I agree wholeheartedly regarding the new word verification crap.

This barn you have chosen to show this week makes me think of a big girl in a white skirt doing a curtesy. (then again, maybe I am too doped up on sudafed to make sense....)

Love the processing you used on the first photo! Excellent, Tricia!

Love your barn shots this week. Thanks for the info. It would be interesting to see how many the rest of the states have.

What a wonderful barn! I love that second shot.

Beautiful big barn this week, Tricia.

Being from Texas I'm not surprised that we have added the most number of barns since the 1960s since the state is so huge and the amount of rural land is massive. However, I must say that the cheapness of pole barns has greatly diminished the quality of barns in Texas and we no longer have an abundance of what we used to traditionally think of as a barn. Instead we have a lot of sheds with little or no character that people call barns. It is indeed a pleasure these days to find a true "barn" in the great state of Texas. That's one of the reasons I like your meme so well!

Beautiful barn! Interesting article and information about the National Barn Alliance. I am not surprised that Texas has the most old barns. It's a big state after all. Of course, Alaska is a big state, but not a whole lot of the state has been developed and farmed, especially not 50 years ago.

What a great barn...it's huge!

Gorgeous barn, Tricia... And I enjoyed reading that article.. I'm not surprised that Texas is Number One --but I was surprised the little ole Missouri was Number Two... Neat, huh?????

That top shot is amazing, and so is the processing! I saw the article about barns too - very interesting.
I so agree with you about the captcha's. They make it so hard to comment.

Now that is an awesome barn, Tricia! Thanks for hosting Barn Charm each week. It was interesting to find out that MO is second with the most barns, but I'm not surprised. We have a lot of them just in my county!

That's a beautiful barn...I like both shots. You are getting so good at editing! I didn't post today because I wanted to get the capcha off. I Hope you can help!

wow - totally new here. Just glancing at all the thumbnails and thinkign they'd make great art!

I have some pictures of an old farm, but not specificially a barn. Is that alright to link up?

I love the contrast of gray building and roof against a stormy sky and surrounded by green grass.
Beautiful creation--terrific barn.
I enjoyed the stats.
I don't know what capcha is, so I guess that means I don't have it on my blog!:>)

Your gray barn is a beauty. It has such a nice shape to its roofline. It looks good in that setting and sky. Well done.

+1 on removing the CAPTCHA, the 'newest' version takes horrible to a new level.

I like that big old barn with the angular roof-line.

ladyfi said...

What an amazingly pretty barn!

Tanya said...

that's some interesting info! yes, that word verification is the worst and stupid blogger made it the default recently when they changed it so many people don't even know they have it unless someone lets them know, like texwis alerted me to it. i've never even had word verification on my blog, ever, but they changed the setting.

i really like your choice today and the texture in the top one!

gigi said...

What a wonderful old barn! You always have the best ones, lucky you!

Daniel said...

Wonder of wonders, you definitely selected the perfect barn.

As for the statistics, I bet the numbers are likely higher. Not everyone participates nor discloses all.

Pix at Under the Oaks said...

Charming barn! Beautiful sky! Great texture and some absolutely beautiful green, green, green to make it pop! Very pretty Tricia! And thanks for the shout out about the current blogger word verification. Between WV and signing in for Wordpress I am cooked. Stick a fork in me, I am done. My 60 year old eyes and brain can't do it. Although last night I did begin to look at it as a challenge but that didn't last too dang long! :)

Fun to join in your Barn Charm meme fun again, Tricia!

Down with capcha! Thank you for ditching it. :-)

What beautiful graceful lines and I love the silvery color. I will have to check out that site... thanks. And yes, this new word verification has got to go! I didn't mind the old simple one. On the top right of my blog I have a link to a video that explains how this CAPTCHA "crap" came about. It is from Carnegie Mellon ...

Beautiful photos Tricia! I'm so glad MO has about 36,000 barns. That means we won't run out of subjects to photograph for awhile.

Evelyn S. said...

Tricia....this just might be my favorite of your wonderful catalog of barns! Wonderful size and design...and that white looks wonderful against the foreground of green.

Maura @ Lilac Lane Cottage said...

Good Morning Tricia!
What a wonderful barn you photographed...that thing is HUGE. I found the information on the barns built before 1960 very interesting...I would have thought most of them would have been in the north east or Ohio, Indiana or places like that. I'm going to have fun checking out the rest of these barns. Hope your week is a good one. Maura :)

Tricia....The more I look at this barn the roof makes me think of a get slide. Put a trampoline at the bottom and then slide away! It is so pretty. I have yet to have seen one like this. genie

I love the barn! As a teenager I helped put a lot of hay in the upper loft of a similar barn. I am not surprise at Texas and Wisconsin having a lot of barns. I always heard about Texas cattle and Wisconsin dairies. The mid-west has lots of agriculture, but I never thought about who had the most.

Linnea said...

So many wonderful barns! I love them all. Thanks for dropping by.

I never tire of looking at your barn Tricia! I only wish I had access to as many as you do so I could post each week.
Wonderful shots and lovely fluffy cloudy skies.
