Christmas Village

Last night

So, my brother got a Book for Dummies for me for my new camera
& I was experimenting last night with bokeh, etc.
But, I can't find how to shoot indoors without that awful orange color,
that's why this 2nd pic is black & white, to tone it down!
(Mouse Over 2nd for orange original version)

Got my car window fixed today...
the shop found more wrong...
$374.75 worth wrong! =0

Great depth of field Tricia - nice work!
When you figure out that orange thing let me know - I can't get away from it either. :)
I really like the black and white though.
Whoa! That's a big bill for the window.

Love the DOF! Very cool! Is this the loaner camera or a new new one? Sorry to hear about the window bill plus. It's always something.

Ouch, the window cost is kind of high! Love the cute photos. Have a great day, Tricia!

Such detail in the little Christmas village!
Why do things always have to break down and cost money just before Christmas. :(

I swear the mechanics for autos have a nation wide conspiracy going on!!!

Too bad about the 'orange glow'...wish I could help with suggesting something, but I'm a bit too much of a novice.

i love those little villages...well i don't how to fix the orange-y-ness but it gives it a vintage look....bummer on the car, don't they always find more?!

Man thats shallow (the aperture anyhow) was you shooting wide open for this Tricia? I especially love the mono conversion, makes it feel more Christmasy.

Cute village!!! I was thinking of you yesterday. My window was stuck down yesterday morning! Yes, it was 17 degrees outside, and yes I had to drive my daughter 10 miles away to preschool. Brrrrrrrr!

Doesn't changing the white balance to the type of lighting correct for the orange glow? You are given a choice as to fluorescent, incandescent, etc. I think that is where one makes the adjustment.

I know nothing about photography....just point and shoot. I did try my low-light option once for Christmas lights and I got the orange glow....and mine was worse....so you did much better! And I love the black and white effect.

I just read your last line. Be glad that's all they found. My daughter's check engine light was on so she thought maybe it needed new spark plugs and wires, but no, it needed a ton of stuff and is costing her $1,400 here at Christmas time. bummer!

I love your village. The black and white looks so Christmas-y. Very pretty.

I think Sinbad said it correctly. You need to change the white balance in your menu settings. Sometimes putting the white balance on auto works just as well. Just play around with it.

i think you're doing really well with your camera! i need a book for dummies. :)

I kind of like the orangey glow here, but check your White Balance, there should be a bunch of presets to compensate for different lighting. When my camera was new I too several dozen photos and they were all BLUE!

By looking at the photo, I'd surmise 2 things:

1) you are shooting jpg mode
2) The lights are fluorescence.

Fluorescent lights give off a different color, so the camera needs to be told that you are shooting with Fluorescent lights.

2 options:

If you switch to raw mode, you can adjust the white balance in lightroom or photoshop. On caveat, raw photos are *much* larger files.

If you want to stick with jpg mode, try changing the white balance setting on the camera to a 'Fluorescence' or maybe 'Tungsten' setting.

Let me know how it works out.

I love, love, love the photo in B&W! I know what you mean about getting orange photos inside. Our walls are a neutral brown, and that with the lighting makes my indoor photos have weird coloring.

I got a cool bokeh shot with my Christmas tree, but the colors were a little off. I'm still learning! Maybe I need to pick up that book :)

love the bokeh n dof...I think the white balance is what you need to adjust! I like the B&W one too

Nice photos. I know what you mean about the orangish color on indoor pics. I am sure you can deal with that with the camera but I usually deal with it on my computer. Still I do kind of like the warmness of the colored pics.

Tricia, you are such a beautiful photographer!

I love your Christmas photographs so much. They are a wonderful Christmas fantasy.

The first picture is so colorful and terrific. I just look and look at it.

And the second picture is amazing! In black and white colors it is so wonderful and so impressive.

Oh, I have a lot to learn. I can't take pictures like these.

Hugs and warm wishes from Kaya.

To fix the color shooting indoors, you need to adjust the white balance and there should be some way to do that in the camera's menu. You should change depending on whether the light is from incandescent bulbs or fluorescent bulbs.

I never knew Santa could sing! Amazing.

This was a perfect entry for WW! Thanks for linking up this week...I loved your choice for B&W - and I loved the other one in spite of the "awful orange color"!

Amazing shots! The depth of field is great, I don't think I have a lens that produces that much blur. I think you can fix the orange by playing with the white balance, but in your photo it looks pretty cool, kind of vintagey.

Isn't learning SO much fun? I hate reading manuals of any kind!!! Like all the others said, it is your white balance, but I think the black and white is precious.
